Judo is a Japanese martial art and Olympic sport.
The art of the throws, hold downs, armlocks, and strangulation techniques.
Judo was created from Japanese Jiu Jitsu by Shihan (Grandmaster) Jigoro Kano in 1882, who established the Kodokan Institute in Tokyo. Kano had removed the most dangerous and fatal techniques when created Judo.

In Judo, we have ranks, which are displayed by belts similarly with other martial arts.
The student grades called Kyu.
6th Kyu - white belt
5th Kyu - yellow belt
4th Kyu - orange belt
3rd Kyu - green belt
2nd Kyu - blue belt
1st Kyu - brown belt
The master grades called Dan.
1st Dan to 5th Dan - black belt
6th Dan to 8th Dan - red and white belt
9th and 10th Dan - red belt

Blanka joined Hatfield Judo Club as the club secretary and first aider in 2023. She has different martial art experience. Blanka is now supporting her daughter Hanna in her Judo.

Sue joined the Hatfield Judo team in 2023 as Club Welfare Officer where she ensures the safety and well-being of its club members is of paramount importance. Having started Judo in Potters Bar in 1982 when she was 6, she then moved on to Barnet Judo Club in 1986 gaining a green belt (3rd Kyu) and entering many competitions. She now enjoys encouraging her son Henry on his Judo journey.

Richard is a Judo parent who stepped on to the mats himself in 2021 at the former Falcon Judo Club. After training at Falcon and St Alban's Judo Club, Richard was awarded blue belt (2nd Kyu) in 2023. Soon afterwards, Richard gained the requisite FPJ Level 1 qualification to become a coach at the new Hatfield Judo Club.

Attila having started Judo in Hungary in 1996 when he was 11 years old. In 2002, he joined Óbuda Judo Club, Budapest where he was awarded brown belt (1st Kyu) in 2005. In the following year, Attila's head instructor asked him to carry on as assistant coach.
In 2010, Attila moved to the UK and had a few years break from Judo. He then joined the former Falcon Judo Club in Hatfield in 2015, and he was awarded black belt (1st Dan) in 2016.
From 2016 to 2023, Attila was the Senior Coach until Falcon Judo had moved. In April 2023, Attila established a new club as Hatfield Judo Club.
Attila holds an FPJ Level 2 and BJA Level 1 coaching qualifications.

Everyone who practices Judo must have a licence, which also provides insurance. Only licenced students can be graded and attend competitions. New starters must apply for their licence after the first 3 sessions, but preferably as soon as possible.
Judo can be started from age of 5 !

Fees: Pay as you go £6.50/session
or
Paying upfront for the full-term time, depends on the number of Wednesdays and Saturdays in the actual term. Usually £40 for Wednesdays and £40 for Saturdays. (£5/session)
Wednesday: 18:30 - 20:00 (all groups)
Saturday: 09:30 - 11:00 (all groups)

Club Welfare Officer
Lesley has worked in a role involving child welfare and safeguarding for many years in both education and as a foster parent. With children attending Hatfield Judo Club, she enjoys watching their confidence and skills grow as they train. She strongly believes all children should have access to sport in a safe and nurturing environment
